Poems, stories and lots more- Dr Audrey Coatesworth

'The little tortoise' Poem and video- watch the tortoises eat, walk, drink and being together.

The little tortoise

This looks very different
The little tortoise said
It's not at all like the place
I thought of in my head

The ground feels rather hard
He put down one weak leg
It's strange I can move
I couldn't in my egg

Is that what I am like?
He was amazed to see
Another tortoise walking by
As slow as slow could be

I can smell something
Is this what I must eat?
He looked down and he saw
A green leaf by his feet

Is that what I must drink?
There was water on a plate
He suddenly felt thirsty
And found he couldn't wait

Like every little being
The baby tortoise grew
He had to learn how to be
When everything was new

The little tortoises are now 6 months old .
